Looking to start counselling?

Starting counselling can feel daunting. Perhaps you’ve been thinking about reaching out for a while, but haven’t quite known where to begin. You might be struggling with something that feels overwhelming, or perhaps you simply feel that life has become difficult to navigate on your own.Whatever has brought you here, you don’t need to have everything figured out before you reach out. You also don’t need to feel that your difficulties are ‘big enough’ to ask for help. If something is causing you distress, affecting your relationships, or making it difficult to feel like yourself, it matters. Sometimes the hardest part is sending that first email or making that first appointment. I hope to make that step feel as comfortable and straightforward as possible.

Hi, I’m Kat

I’m a counsellor, but first and foremost, I’m a person who understands that life can sometimes feel complicated, messy and difficult to make sense of.

I’m warm, approachable and genuinely curious about people. I’m not here to judge you, tell you what you should do, or sit quietly while you do all the talking! I’m here to listen, to understand, and to help you make sense of what’s going on for you.

I’ve been a qualified counsellor for over six years, and throughout that time I’ve had the privilege of supporting people in a variety of settings. My experience includes working in university pastoral support, as a senior counsellor within a trauma service, and within counselling services, as well as leading a counselling team. I also have experience working in private practice.

These different roles have given me experience of working with people from all walks of life and with a wide range of difficulties. But for me, counselling has never been about putting people into categories or finding a ‘one size fits all’ approach. Every person is different, and I believe the most important thing is taking the time to understand you and what you need.

I believe counselling works best when you feel comfortable enough to be yourself — whether that means talking things through, sitting with something difficult, or simply not knowing where to start.

You don’t need to have all the answers before you come to counselling. We can work it out together.
